Wessel-Werk 35 ft garage hose, crushproof, swivel plastic handle, cuff fits 1.5 in inlets

Wessel-Werk

  • 35 ft
  • air only (inferred: no switch)

A 35 ft crushproof hose with a swivel plastic handle and a cuff for 1.5 in inlets, with no switch, for a garage inlet you turn on at the unit.

How we chose

The hose is the part you touch every time you clean, and the part most likely to be bought wrong. We ranked these seven on inlet fit first (which inlet type the wall end is made for), then electrical type, length, crushproof construction, swivel handle, switch type and warranty. Where a maker publishes a spec sheet it ranks higher than a hose we know only from a marketplace listing, which is why the NuTone CH515 ranks above hoses with longer warranties.

All seven are 1.25 to 1.375 in bore hoses for standard residential inlets. None of them fits a Hide-A-Hose retractable valve; that system uses its own hoses, covered in our retractable hose guide.

1. OVO 35 ft low-voltage: best overall low-voltage

For the most common setup, a standard 1.5 in inlet with two low-voltage contacts and an air-driven or no floor brush, this is the hose to buy. It is 35 ft, crushproof, with an on/off switch at the handle and a universal low-voltage end. OVO’s hose warranty is 2 years, though we took that figure from a sibling OVO listing because this listing does not state it. It is explicitly not for electric powerheads.

Skip it if you have or want an electric powerhead; choose the dual-voltage version instead.

2. NuTone CH515: best direct-connect

The CH515 is the only hose here with a manufacturer spec sheet. It is a 30 ft current-carrying crushproof hose with a three-position switch (off, unit, unit plus powerhead), a swivel handle, a 1.25 in bore, UL recognition and a 7.3 lb weight, in frost white, with a hose hanger and hardware in the box. The wall end is a direct-connect current-carrying universal end for direct-connect electric inlets. Some distributors describe it as 1-3/8 in and dark gray, which conflicts with the sheet.

NuTone’s central vacuum line is now owned by Drainvac, and NuTone does not publish a warranty term for the hose.

Skip it if your inlets are standard low-voltage; this end will not power anything there.

3. OVO 35 ft dual-voltage: best for adding an electric powerhead

This is how you get an electric powerhead on a house with low-voltage inlets. The wall end is a standard low-voltage end with a pigtail power cord you plug into a nearby outlet; the 3-way handle switch runs off, unit on, or unit plus powerhead. It is 35 ft, crushproof, with a 2-year warranty. OVO states a 72 in pigtail cord for the 30 and 40 ft siblings but does not confirm it for the 35 ft version.

Skip it if you have direct-connect inlets; a direct-connect hose avoids the cord.

4. OVO 50 ft low-voltage: longest reach

Fifty feet of crushproof low-voltage hose with a swivel handle, a 1.25 in bore and an on/off switch at the handle, with OVO’s 2-year warranty. It lets one inlet cover a big open floor or a long hallway. It is also the heaviest thing to drag and the hardest to store, and a 50 ft hose asks more of the power unit’s water lift than a 30 ft one.

Skip it if your inlets were planned for 30 or 35 ft; the extra hose is dead weight.

5. Vacuflo TurboGrip 7348-30: best universal-end Vacuflo

Vacuflo sells its TurboGrip hose in two end styles. This one, 7348-30, has a universal-style low-voltage end with no rack for standard two-contact 1.5 in inlets, so it fits most non-Vacuflo systems too. It is 30 ft, gray, with a low-voltage on/off switch in the handle, and Vacuflo’s attachment warranty gives non-electric hoses 3 years (electric hoses get 1 year). It does not fit Vacuflo Automatic 2-prong valves. Vacuflo has reported counterfeit hoses on marketplaces, so buy carefully.

Specs come from Vacuflo’s FAQ and warranty pages rather than a product sheet; crushproof construction is not stated.

Skip it if your system has Vacuflo Automatic valves, which need the other end style.

6. NuTone CH235: best 30 ft

The CH235 is NuTone’s standard 30 ft low-voltage hose: crushproof vinyl, dark gray, 1-3/8 in diameter, swivel handle, on/off at the handle, with a universal end that fits NuTone and most standard inlets. Specs come from NuTone’s accessory page and distributors; no warranty term is published. NuTone’s central vacuum business is now owned by Drainvac.

Skip it if you want a published warranty; the OVO 35 ft low-voltage has one.

7. Wessel-Werk 35 ft garage hose: best garage

A garage inlet is often an air-only inlet with the unit switched at the canister or a utility valve, so a hose without a switch is fine and one less thing to break. This Wessel-Werk hose is 35 ft, crushproof, with a swivel plastic handle and a cuff that fits 1.5 in inlets. The listing shows no switch, so we record it as air-only. Wessel-Werk is a German maker with a US arm in Mooresville, North Carolina; the hose specs come from the listing and no warranty is published.

Skip it if your garage inlet is low-voltage and you want to switch the unit from the handle.

What to check before you buy

  • Inlet type. Low-voltage, direct-connect electric, or air-only. See identify your inlet type.
  • Wall end. Universal low-voltage ends fit standard two-contact inlets; direct-connect ends need direct-connect inlets; Vacuflo Automatic valves need their own end.
  • Powerhead plans. Electric head means direct-connect or pigtail hose. Air-driven head works on any hose.
  • Handle end. If you are adding an electric head, the handle plug must match the head’s wand.
  • Length and storage. A hose hanger is included only with the CH515.
  • Warranty. OVO 2 years, Vacuflo 3 years on non-electric hoses, the rest unpublished.

What to do next

Read hoses explained for the full fit logic, then choose a floor tool from the powerheads roundup. If you need wand and tools too, a kit is usually the simpler buy. For a hose sock or hanger, see attachments and tools explained.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which hose fits my inlet?

Look inside the inlet door. Two small metal contacts and a round 1.5 in opening is a standard low-voltage inlet, which takes any universal low-voltage hose here. Extra prongs or a plug receptacle means a direct-connect electric inlet, which takes a direct-connect hose such as the NuTone CH515. No contacts at all is an air-only inlet, which takes a plain hose or one you turn on at the unit.

What is the difference between low-voltage, direct-connect and pigtail hoses?

A low-voltage hose carries only the on/off signal from the handle switch to the inlet. A direct-connect hose also carries 120 V from a direct-connect inlet to an electric powerhead. A pigtail (dual-voltage) hose carries 120 V too, but gets it from a short cord you plug into a wall outlet, so it works at a standard low-voltage inlet.

What length hose should I buy?

The length your inlets were planned around. Most homes use 30 or 35 ft; a 50 ft hose covers more floor from fewer inlets but is heavier to drag and store. If you are adding inlets, plan them so the hose reaches every corner with a few feet to spare.

Can I run an electric powerhead on a low-voltage hose?

No. The head needs 120 V, and a low-voltage hose has no conductor for it. You need a direct-connect hose (with a direct-connect inlet) or a dual-voltage pigtail hose (with any low-voltage inlet and a wall outlet).

What does crushproof mean?

The hose wall springs back if you step on it or roll a chair over it, instead of kinking or staying flat. Six of the seven hoses here are described as crushproof by their makers or sellers; it is the standard for a hose you will drag around a house.

Are there counterfeit central vacuum hoses?

Vacuflo has reported counterfeit Vacuflo hoses on marketplaces. Buy from the manufacturer's own store or a seller it names, keep the receipt, and check that the end and switch match the manufacturer's description.
