Bars place each figure against the 23 whole-house units we track, from the lowest published value to the highest, with the median marked. A bar is drawn only where at least three units publish the figure. Green sits on the better side of the median, amber on the weaker side; amps and weight have no better side.
"Not yet verified" means the manufacturer has not published the figure or we could not confirm it. We never fill a gap with a guess and we do not invent measurements: every figure is the maker's own or a specialty dealer's, and the source is named.
The short version
What we like
- ✓713 air watts, 147 in water lift and 142 CFM on VacuMaid's spec sheet; the product page says 760, 150 and 137
- ✓Ametek Lamb 8.4 in 2-stage tangential bypass motor rated about 1,500 hours
- ✓Permanent inverted bag in a 38 qt, 14 in can: no bags or filters to buy
- ✓Front utility valve on the unit; Hide-A-Hose compatible
- ✓10-year motor warranty; plugs into a standard 120V outlet
What we'd change
- ✕68 dB with vented exhaust; louder than VacuMaid's SR14, SR38, SR46 and SR66
- ✕Two sets of performance figures from the maker; confirm with Lindsay before you compare
- ✕Weight not published; no paper-bag option listed, unlike the SR14 and SR46
Who this unit is for
The VacuMaid SR60 is for a very large home, up to 12,000 sq ft by VacuMaid’s rating, whose owner wants the strongest single motor VacuMaid builds and does not want to buy bags. It is the permanent-bag sibling of the SR800: same 8.4 in bypass motor, same 38 qt can, with a front utility valve added and the disposable bag taken away. It is built by Lindsay Manufacturing in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
It suits a garage or basement install where 68 dB is not a problem and the exhaust can run outside. If the unit has to hang near living space, the SR46 gives up some reach for a 10 dB quieter rating.
What the specs tell you
Taking the spec sheet: 713 air watts, 147 in of water lift and 142 CFM from an Ametek Lamb high-airwatt 8.4 in 2-stage tangential bypass motor drawing 13.8 A, with a motor life VacuMaid puts at about 1,500 hours. Air watts predicts carpet cleaning at the tool; 713 is among the highest confirmed figures in our records, behind OVO’s 750 and VacuMaid’s own 740 in the SR14 and SR38. Water lift is sealed suction for long runs and climbs; 147 in is the highest in our records, tied with the SR800. CFM is airflow; 142 is also at the top. All three are high and in balance.
The product-page figures move air watts up to 760 and water lift to 150 in while CFM drops to 137 and current rises to 15 A. That pattern, more lift and less flow at higher draw, is consistent with a different motor wind rather than a typo. Either way the unit is top-tier; what changes is the circuit margin and which spec you can hold VacuMaid to.
The 8.4 in motor is the largest in VacuMaid’s line we cover. Bigger fans move more air at the same speed, which is where the 142 CFM and the 12,000 sq ft rating come from. Being a tangential bypass design, it keeps the dirty airstream away from its own cooling air, which suits a unit with only a cloth bag between the dirt and the motor.
Noise is 68 dB with vented exhaust, the same as the SR800 and 10 dB above the SR46 and SR66.
Collection is a permanent inverted bag in a 14 in canister VacuMaid says is designed for high-airwatt motors. You empty the 38 qt dirt can and shake out or wash the bag as it loads up. Unlike the SR14 and SR46, no optional paper-bag stem is listed for the SR60, so the record classes it as bagless rather than hybrid.
Weight is not published.
Fit and compatibility
Standard 2-inch pipe, wall bracket mount. VacuMaid lists low-voltage and direct-connect electric inlet compatibility and says the unit is Hide-A-Hose compatible. Plug-in 120V, not hardwired; 13.8 A on the spec sheet, 15 A on the product page. Plan the circuit for 15 A and have your electrician confirm it.
Dimensions are 16.125 in diameter by 43.5 in high, the tallest canister in VacuMaid’s single-motor line. Plan on a clear 44 in of wall plus room beneath to pull the 14 in can. Exhaust outside is listed as recommended and the 68 dB figure assumes it.
What’s in the box, and what you still need
In the box: the power unit with front utility valve and the permanent inverted bag.
Not included: hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. The record does not list a wall bracket; confirm with the seller. Add an exhaust cap, and a muffler if the 68 dB figure worries you.
Warranty and support
VacuMaid’s product page states a 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty page breaks that into lifetime limited on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, for the original owner on residential installs. Commercial use drops coverage to 90 days. Registration is required, the warranty is non-transferable, and it is void if the system is serviced by anyone other than an authorized dealer using replacement parts. Claims go first to the authorized dealer-installer.
VacuMaid’s warranty page does not mention Amazon or unauthorized sellers. Lindsay Manufacturing sells at least one VacuMaid unit on Amazon directly, so check the seller name on the listing you buy from.
Living with it
Routine maintenance is emptying the 38 qt can and shaking out or washing the inverted bag. The can is the big 14 in size, so in a normal home emptying is infrequent; the record gives no interval, so let suction at the far inlet be your guide. There are no bags to stock and no filter to replace.
The front utility valve lets you plug a hose in at the unit for the garage or car. At 68 dB vented, this is a garage or mechanical-room unit; mount it on an exterior wall, not one shared with a bedroom, and vent it outside.
The 1,500-hour motor-life figure is approximate, and carbon brushes wear before the motor does. Expect a brush change as the first big service item years in.
What we’d verify before buying
- Which set of figures applies to current production: 713/147/142/13.8 A or 760/150/137/15 A. Ask Lindsay.
- Weight: not published.
- Whether a wall bracket ships with the unit; the record does not list one.
- That no paper-bag option exists for this canister, if you might want one later.
- Amazon seller name, to know whether you are buying from Lindsay or a dealer.

Frequently asked questions
What are the VacuMaid SR60's real numbers?
VacuMaid's 2014 spec sheet says 713 air watts, 147 in water lift, 142 CFM and 13.8 A; its current product page says 760 air watts, 150 in, 137 CFM and 15 A. The Amazon listing matches the spec sheet. Both sets are top-tier; ask Lindsay which applies to current production.
Is it bagged or bagless?
Bagless, in the sense that there is nothing to buy. It uses a permanent inverted bag in a 38 qt, 14 in dirt can. VacuMaid does not list a paper-bag stem for the SR60 the way it does for the SR14 and SR46.
How loud is it?
68 dB with vented exhaust per VacuMaid. That is 10 dB above the SR46 and the same as the bagged SR800.
What size home is it for?
VacuMaid rates it for 12,000 sq ft.
How is it different from the SR800?
Same 8.4 in bypass motor, same figures, same 38 qt capacity and 12,000 sq ft rating. The SR800 uses disposable HEPA-style bags; the SR60 uses a permanent inverted bag and has a front utility valve.
What circuit does it need?
Plug-in 120V. The spec sheet says 13.8 A; the product page says 15 A. Plan for the higher figure.
What is the warranty?
VacuMaid's 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty: lifetime limited on the canister, 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, original owner, residential use. Commercial use drops it to 90 days. Registration is required.
