Bars place each figure against the 23 whole-house units we track, from the lowest published value to the highest, with the median marked. A bar is drawn only where at least three units publish the figure. Green sits on the better side of the median, amber on the weaker side; amps and weight have no better side.
"Not yet verified" means the manufacturer has not published the figure or we could not confirm it. We never fill a gap with a guess and we do not invent measurements: every figure is the maker's own or a specialty dealer's, and the source is named.
The short version
What we like
- ✓631 air watts, 142 in water lift and 121 CFM, confirmed on VacuMaid's spec sheet
- ✓Cyclonic with AirChannel: no bag and no filter to clog or clean
- ✓Ametek Lamb 7.2 in Premier 2-stage tangential bypass motor with brush interrupters
- ✓38 qt dirt can; optional PB14MK liner for cleaner emptying
- ✓10-year motor warranty; Hide-A-Hose compatible; plugs into 120V
What we'd change
- ✕66 dB with vented exhaust, louder than VacuMaid's SR-series units
- ✕No filter in the airstream, so venting outside is close to mandatory
- ✕Weight not published; the muffler claim comes from the Amazon seller, not VacuMaid
Who this unit is for
The VacuMaid S2400 is for a homeowner who wants a central vacuum with nothing to buy or replace: no bags, no filters, just a dirt can to empty. VacuMaid rates it for 10,000 sq ft, which covers nearly any single-family home. It is built by Lindsay Manufacturing in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
It suits a garage or basement wall where the exhaust can run outside and the noise does not matter. If your power unit has to sit in a closet or near living space, look at VacuMaid’s quieter SR-series units, or at the S2600, which hangs this same motor separately from its can.
What the specs tell you
VacuMaid’s spec sheet lists 631 air watts, 142 in of water lift and 121 CFM from an Ametek Lamb 7.2 in Premier 2-stage tangential bypass motor drawing 15.8 A. Air watts is the figure that predicts carpet cleaning at the tool; 631 is solid mid-pack among the residential units in our records, below the 700-plus units but well above entry level. Water lift is sealed suction, the force that moves air through a long run and up a floor or two; 142 in is among the highest in our records. CFM is airflow; 121 is moderate. The profile is high lift with moderate flow: strong on long pipe runs, with less margin on wide-open floor tools.
The motor type matters here. A tangential bypass motor keeps the dirty airstream separate from the motor’s own cooling air, which is the design you want on a unit with no filter. VacuMaid also lists brush interrupters, which shut the motor down when the carbon brushes wear out instead of letting them run to failure, so a brush change rather than a motor change is the likely repair.
Noise is 66 dB with vented exhaust. That is louder than the 58 to 60 dB SR-series units and the 60 dB S2600.
Collection is cyclonic with VacuMaid’s AirChannel. Debris spins out of the airstream and drops into the 38 qt dirt can, with no bag or filter in the path. You can fit an optional PB14MK plastic liner so emptying means lifting out a bag rather than dumping the can.
Weight is not published. The Amazon listing figures match the spec sheet exactly.
Fit and compatibility
Standard 2-inch pipe, wall bracket mount. VacuMaid lists low-voltage and direct-connect electric inlet compatibility and says the unit is Hide-A-Hose compatible. Plug-in 120V, not hardwired. At 15.8 A it draws more than a 15 A circuit is rated for, so plan on a dedicated 20 A circuit and have your electrician confirm it.
Dimensions are 16.125 in diameter by 41.375 in high. The 14 in can is the wide part, so plan on a clear 42 in of wall plus room beneath to pull the can off.
Exhaust outside is listed as recommended. With no filter in the airstream, we would treat it as required: fine dust that the cyclone does not catch goes wherever the exhaust goes.
What’s in the box, and what you still need
VacuMaid’s product page and spec sheet list no package contents. The Amazon listing says a muffler kit is included and claims lifetime coverage on the steel body; neither appears in VacuMaid’s own material, so treat both as seller claims until confirmed.
Not included: the optional PB14MK liner, hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. The record does not list a wall bracket; confirm with the seller. Add an exhaust cap and, if you want quiet, a muffler if one does not ship in the box.
Warranty and support
VacuMaid’s product page states a 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty page breaks that into lifetime limited on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, for the original owner on residential installs. Commercial use drops coverage to 90 days. Registration is required, the warranty is non-transferable, and it is void if the system is serviced by anyone other than an authorized dealer using replacement parts. Claims go first to the authorized dealer-installer.
VacuMaid’s warranty page does not mention Amazon or unauthorized sellers. Lindsay Manufacturing sells at least one VacuMaid unit on Amazon directly, so check the seller name on the listing you buy from.
Living with it
Routine upkeep is emptying the 38 qt can. With the PB14MK liner you lift out a bag; without it you carry the can outside and dump it. There is no filter to wash and no bag to buy. The record gives no emptying interval; let suction at the far inlet, or a visibly full can, be your guide.
Because nothing but the cyclone stands between the dirt and the exhaust, keep the exhaust run outdoors and away from windows and the air intake for your HVAC. At 66 dB vented, this is a garage unit rather than a closet unit; mount it on an exterior wall rather than one shared with a bedroom.
The brush interrupters are a quiet plus for long ownership: when the motor stops one day with no warning, check the brushes before you assume the motor is gone.
What we’d verify before buying
- Weight: not published.
- Whether a muffler kit and a wall bracket ship with the unit; VacuMaid lists neither.
- Whether the circuit at the mounting spot is rated for a 15.8 A load.
- The current part number and availability of the PB14MK liner.
- Amazon seller name, to know whether you are buying from Lindsay or a dealer.

Frequently asked questions
Is the VacuMaid S2400 bagged or bagless?
Bagless and filterless. It is cyclonic: debris spins out of the airstream and drops into a 38 qt dirt can. VacuMaid sells an optional PB14MK plastic liner so you can lift the debris out in a bag instead of dumping the can.
Does it have a filter to clean?
No. VacuMaid describes it as cyclonic filtration with AirChannel and no filters to clog or clean. That also means fine dust goes out the exhaust, so vent it outside.
How loud is it?
66 dB with vented exhaust per VacuMaid. The split-canister S2600 uses the same motor and is rated 60 dB.
What size home is it for?
VacuMaid rates it for 10,000 sq ft.
What circuit does it need?
Plug-in 120V, 15.8 A draw. Ask your electrician to confirm the circuit can carry that; a dedicated 20 A circuit is the safe choice.
Does it come with a muffler?
The Amazon listing says a muffler kit is included. VacuMaid's product page and spec sheet do not mention one, so confirm with the seller before you count on it.
What is the warranty?
VacuMaid's 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty: lifetime limited on the canister, 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, original owner, residential use. Commercial use drops it to 90 days. Registration is required.
