Bars place each figure against the 23 whole-house units we track, from the lowest published value to the highest, with the median marked. A bar is drawn only where at least three units publish the figure. Green sits on the better side of the median, amber on the weaker side; amps and weight have no better side.
"Not yet verified" means the manufacturer has not published the figure or we could not confirm it. We never fill a gap with a guess and we do not invent measurements: every figure is the maker's own or a specialty dealer's, and the source is named.

Who this unit is for
The VacuMaid SR46 is for a homeowner with a larger house who wants a quiet unit, a motor built for long life, and the freedom to run it with a cloth bag or a paper bag. VacuMaid rates it for 9,500 sq ft. It is built by Lindsay Manufacturing in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
It sits between two VacuMaids we already cover. It shares the SR14’s canister, utility valve and cloth-bag design, and the SR66’s 6.6 in bypass motor and numbers. If the SR14’s 6,000 sq ft rating is too low for your home, or you want a bypass motor’s longer service life, this is the step up.
What the specs tell you
VacuMaid’s spec sheet lists 663 air watts, 132 in of water lift and 139 CFM from an Ametek Lamb high-airwatt 6.6 in 2-stage tangential bypass motor drawing 14 A, with a motor life VacuMaid puts at about 1,500 hours. Air watts predicts carpet cleaning at the tool; 663 is upper-mid in our records. Water lift is sealed suction for long runs and climbs; 132 in is strong. CFM is airflow; 139 is one of the higher figures we have. The balance leans slightly toward airflow, which suits a large home with a lot of pipe.
A tangential bypass motor keeps the dirty airstream away from its own cooling air. That is why VacuMaid can publish a motor-life figure for it, and it is the better design for a cyclonic unit where the cloth bag, not a sealed paper bag, is the only barrier.
Noise is 58 dB with vented exhaust on the spec sheet. VacuMaid’s product page for the same unit says 60 dB. Both are among the quietest in our records; the record carries the spec-sheet figure and flags the gap. We would ask VacuMaid which is current before quoting either as fact.
Collection is cyclonic with an inverted cloth bag acting as the filter barrier. You empty the 27 qt dirt can and occasionally shake out or wash the cloth bag. With VacuMaid’s optional special stem you can run a sealed paper bag instead, which is why the record calls it hybrid. The trade-off: no consumables with the cloth bag but more handling; cleaner emptying with the paper bag but you buy the stem and bags.
Weight is not published. The Amazon figures match the spec sheet exactly.
Fit and compatibility
Standard 2-inch pipe, wall bracket mount. VacuMaid lists low-voltage and direct-connect electric inlet compatibility and says the unit is Hide-A-Hose compatible, so it can drive a retractable-hose system. Plug-in 120V, 14 A; not hardwired.
Dimensions are 12.875 in diameter by 39.875 in high, the same as the SR14. Plan on 40 in of wall plus room beneath to drop the dirt can. Exhaust outside is listed as recommended, and the noise figures assume it.
What’s in the box, and what you still need
In the box: the power unit with front utility valve and the inverted cloth bag.
Not included: the optional paper-bag stem, hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. The record does not list a wall bracket; confirm with the seller. Add an exhaust cap and, if you want paper bags, the stem and bags.
Warranty and support
VacuMaid’s product page states a 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty page breaks that into lifetime limited on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, for the original owner on residential installs. Commercial use drops coverage to 90 days. Registration is required, the warranty is non-transferable, and it is void if the system is serviced by anyone other than an authorized dealer using replacement parts. Claims go first to the authorized dealer-installer.
VacuMaid’s warranty page does not mention Amazon or unauthorized sellers. Lindsay Manufacturing sells at least one VacuMaid unit on Amazon directly, so check the seller name on the listing you buy from.
Living with it
Routine maintenance is emptying the 27 qt dirt can and caring for the inverted cloth bag, which you shake out or wash as it loads up. If you add the paper-bag stem, bag changes replace that chore. The record gives no change intervals; let suction at the far inlet be your guide.
The front utility valve lets you plug a hose in at the unit for the garage or car without running to an inlet. At 58 to 60 dB vented, this is as quiet as full-size units get in our records, but still vent it outside and keep it off bedroom walls.
The 1,500-hour motor life figure is worth putting in context: at an hour of vacuuming a week, that is close to 30 years. VacuMaid frames it as approximate, and brushes wear before the motor does.

- Whether a wall bracket ships with the unit; the record does not list one.
- The part number for the optional paper-bag stem and compatible bags.
- Amazon seller name, to know whether you are buying from Lindsay or a dealer.
