Bars place each figure against the 23 whole-house units we track, from the lowest published value to the highest, with the median marked. A bar is drawn only where at least three units publish the figure. Green sits on the better side of the median, amber on the weaker side; amps and weight have no better side.
"Not yet verified" means the manufacturer has not published the figure or we could not confirm it. We never fill a gap with a guess and we do not invent measurements: every figure is the maker's own or a specialty dealer's, and the source is named.

Who this unit is for
The VacuMaid S3600 is a two-motor, 240V central vacuum power unit for very large homes and light commercial spaces. VacuMaid rates it for 18,000 sq ft and up and says it is suitable for some commercial applications. It is the largest unit in our records, built by Lindsay Manufacturing in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
This is not the unit for a typical house. If you are under 10,000 sq ft, a single-motor VacuMaid such as the S2400 or SR800 will clean as well at the tool, run quieter, and plug into 120V. The S3600 is for the estate, the multi-wing house, or the small building where pipe runs are long enough that a single motor loses too much on the way.
What the specs tell you
VacuMaid’s spec sheet lists 1,268 air watts, 137 in of water lift and 229 CFM from two Ametek Lamb 7.2 in Premier 2-stage tangential bypass motors, with a maximum draw of 16.4 A at 240V. Compare that with the single-motor S2400, which uses one of the same motors: 631 air watts, 142 in and 121 CFM. The two-motor numbers show what adding a second motor does. Airflow nearly doubles, from 121 to 229 CFM. Water lift does not; 137 in is in the same range as the single motor. Air watts, being a product of the two, roughly doubles as well.
What that means at the tool: on a short run in a normal house you would not feel much difference in sealed suction, because lift is the same. Where the S3600 pulls ahead is airflow across a very long or branched pipe network, where friction losses eat into CFM and a single motor runs out of margin. That is why the rating jumps to 18,000 sq ft.
Noise is 78 dB with vented exhaust. That is 12 dB above the S2400 and 20 dB above VacuMaid’s quietest units, and the loudest figure in our records for a VacuMaid. Mount it away from anywhere people sit or sleep.
Collection is cyclonic with AirChannel: no bag, no filter. Debris drops into the 38 qt DC1240 dirt can, which hangs separately from the motor unit. An optional PB14MK plastic liner lets you lift the debris out in a bag.
Weight is not published for either piece. The Amazon figures match the spec sheet exactly.
Fit and compatibility
Standard 2-inch pipe, including the link between the motor unit and the can. Both pieces hang on wall brackets. VacuMaid lists low-voltage and direct-connect electric inlet compatibility; the low-voltage inlet circuit is separate from the 240V supply and is still a careful-DIYer job.
Dimensions: the motor unit is 13.625 in diameter by 30.75 in high; the DC1240 dirt can is 16.125 in diameter by 40.25 in high. You need wall space for both, a pipe run between them, room beneath the can to drop it, and a 240V receptacle or junction box at the motor unit.
Exhaust outside is listed as recommended. With two motors moving 229 CFM and no filter in the path, treat it as required, and give the exhaust its own clear run; a long exhaust line adds back pressure that cuts into the airflow you paid for.
What’s in the box, and what you still need
The Amazon title names the DC1240 dirt can as part of the bundle, and VacuMaid’s spec sheet pairs the S3600 motor unit with the DC1240 can. Confirm with the seller that both pieces ship together. The record lists no brackets, cord or exhaust parts.
Not included: the optional PB14MK liner, hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. Budget for the electrician’s visit as part of the install, not as an afterthought.
Warranty and support
VacuMaid’s product page states a 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty page breaks that into lifetime limited on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, for the original owner on residential installs. Commercial or industrial use drops coverage to 90 days, which matters for this unit more than any other VacuMaid: the maker markets it for some commercial use, and that use is covered for only three months. Registration is required, the warranty is non-transferable, and it is void if serviced by anyone other than an authorized dealer using replacement parts. Claims go first to the authorized dealer-installer.
VacuMaid’s warranty page does not mention Amazon or unauthorized sellers. Lindsay Manufacturing sells at least one VacuMaid unit on Amazon directly, so check the seller name.
Living with it
You interact with the can, not the motor unit. Empty the 38 qt DC1240 when it fills, or lift out the PB14MK liner. No filter, no bags. The record gives no emptying interval; a visibly full can or weaker suction at the far inlet is the cue.
The two motors are the same 7.2 in Premier bypass motors VacuMaid uses in the S2400, so parts and brushes are common. Expect eventual brush replacement rather than motor replacement as the first big service item, and expect to do it twice.
At 78 dB vented, this unit needs an exterior wall in a garage, mechanical room or outbuilding, and an exhaust run that ends well away from windows and HVAC intakes.
What we’d verify before buying
- Weight of both pieces: not published.
- Whether it ships with a 240V cord and plug or is meant for direct wiring; the record does not say.
- That the DC1240 dirt can and brackets for both pieces are in the bundle you order.
- Whether your intended use counts as commercial under VacuMaid’s warranty.
- Amazon seller name, to know whether you are buying from Lindsay or a dealer.

Complete the system
A power unit alone does not clean a floor. These are the pieces most buyers add to the box, matched to this unit from the makers' own fit lists.
- The unit
Low-voltage, direct-connect electric inlets on 2-inch pipe.
- Hose and tool kit✓ Maker lists this brand
Cen-Tec 93048 kit with switch-control 40 ft hose, black
Cen-Tec Systems
Cen-Tec Systems lists VacuMaid systems as compatible; hose end matches low-voltage inlets.
- 3. Bags or filter
No bag or filter in our catalog is listed for this model yet. Match the number printed on your old bag or filter in bags or filters.
Frequently asked questions
Does the VacuMaid S3600 plug into a regular outlet?
No. VacuMaid lists it as a 240V unit drawing up to 16.4 A. That means a dedicated 240V circuit installed by a licensed electrician. The Amazon listing bullets omit the voltage, so do not assume a standard outlet will do.
Why two motors?
Two motors working together roughly double airflow: 229 CFM against 121 CFM for the single 7.2 in motor in the S2400. Water lift stays about the same at 137 in. More airflow is what carries debris through very long pipe runs in very large buildings.
How loud is it?
78 dB with vented exhaust per VacuMaid, the loudest in the VacuMaid line we cover. It belongs in a garage, mechanical room or outbuilding.
What size building is it for?
VacuMaid rates it for 18,000 sq ft and up, and says it is suitable for some commercial applications.
Is it bagged?
No. It is cyclonic with VacuMaid's AirChannel and no filter; debris drops into the 38 qt DC1240 dirt can. An optional PB14MK plastic liner makes emptying cleaner.
What is the warranty?
VacuMaid's 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty: lifetime limited on the canister, 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, original owner, residential use. Commercial or industrial use drops coverage to 90 days. Registration is required.
