Bars place each figure against the 23 whole-house units we track, from the lowest published value to the highest, with the median marked. A bar is drawn only where at least three units publish the figure. Green sits on the better side of the median, amber on the weaker side; amps and weight have no better side.
"Not yet verified" means the manufacturer has not published the figure or we could not confirm it. We never fill a gap with a guess and we do not invent measurements: every figure is the maker's own or a specialty dealer's, and the source is named.
The short version
What we like
- ✓631 air watts, 142 in water lift and 121 CFM, confirmed on VacuMaid's spec sheet
- ✓Split canister: motor unit only 15.75 in tall; DC1200 dirt can hangs wherever is convenient
- ✓60 dB with vented exhaust, 6 dB quieter than the one-piece S2400
- ✓Cyclonic with AirChannel: no bag and no filter; optional PB4MK liner
- ✓Ametek Lamb 7.2 in Premier bypass motor with brush interrupters; 10-year motor warranty
What we'd change
- ✕Two wall mounts and a pipe link between them: more installation than a one-piece unit
- ✕27 qt can is smaller than the S2400's 38 qt
- ✕Weight not published; whether the can ships in the Amazon bundle needs confirming
Who this unit is for
The VacuMaid S2600 is for a homeowner who likes the idea of a filter-free cyclonic unit but cannot, or would rather not, hang a 40 in canister in one spot. It splits the power unit into two pieces: a short motor unit and a separate DC1200 dirt can, joined by 2-inch pipe. VacuMaid rates it for 10,000 sq ft and builds it at Lindsay Manufacturing in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
The typical buyer has a low-ceilinged utility space, or wants the motor out in the garage and the can inside where it can be emptied without a trip through the cold. It also suits anyone who wanted the S2400 but balked at its 66 dB rating; the same motor hung on its own is rated 60 dB.
What the specs tell you
VacuMaid’s spec sheet lists 631 air watts, 142 in of water lift and 121 CFM from an Ametek Lamb 7.2 in Premier 2-stage tangential bypass motor drawing 15.8 A. Those are the S2400’s numbers exactly, which makes sense since it is the same motor. Air watts predicts carpet cleaning at the tool; 631 is solid mid-pack in our records. Water lift of 142 in is among the highest we have on file and is what carries suction through long runs and up floors. CFM of 121 is moderate. The extra pipe between the can and the motor is a short run, and VacuMaid rates the split unit for the same 10,000 sq ft as the one-piece, so the layout does not cost you reach on paper.
Noise is 60 dB with vented exhaust, against 66 dB for the S2400. The record does not say why; separating the can from the motor and giving the motor its own small housing is the obvious difference.
Collection is cyclonic with AirChannel. Debris spins out and drops into the 27 qt DC1200 can, with no bag and no filter in the path. VacuMaid’s optional PB4MK plastic liner lets you lift the debris out in a bag. The 27 qt can is the 12 in size; the S2400 uses the 14 in, 38 qt can.
Weight is not published for either piece. Amazon lists 632 air watts where the maker says 631, a rounding difference; the other figures match.
Fit and compatibility
Standard 2-inch pipe throughout, including the link between the two pieces. Both hang on wall brackets. VacuMaid lists low-voltage and direct-connect electric inlet compatibility. Plug-in 120V, 15.8 A; not hardwired. That draw is above a 15 A circuit’s rating, so plan on a dedicated 20 A circuit.
Dimensions: the motor unit is 16.125 in diameter by 15.75 in high; the DC1200 dirt can is 14.125 in diameter by 39 in high. That is the whole point: the tall piece and the loud piece are no longer the same piece. The can still needs room beneath it to drop off its bracket.
Exhaust outside is listed as recommended. With no filter in the airstream, treat it as required, and remember the exhaust comes off the motor unit, so that is the piece that needs to be near an exterior wall.
What’s in the box, and what you still need
The Amazon title names the DC1200AC dirt can as part of the bundle, and VacuMaid’s spec sheet pairs the S2600 motor unit with the DC1200 can. VacuMaid’s own product page describes the motor unit. The AC suffix is not confirmed on VacuMaid’s site, and it most likely refers to the same AirChannel can, but confirm with the seller that both pieces are in the box.
Not included: the optional PB4MK liner, hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. You will also need the short pipe run and fittings to connect the can to the motor, plus an exhaust cap. The record does not list brackets; confirm.
Warranty and support
VacuMaid’s product page states a 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty page breaks that into lifetime limited on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, for the original owner on residential installs. Commercial use drops coverage to 90 days. Registration is required, the warranty is non-transferable, and it is void if the system is serviced by anyone other than an authorized dealer using replacement parts. Claims go first to the authorized dealer-installer.
VacuMaid’s warranty page does not mention Amazon or unauthorized sellers. Lindsay Manufacturing sells at least one VacuMaid unit on Amazon directly, so check the seller name on the listing.
Living with it
Day to day, you only interact with the can. Empty the 27 qt DC1200 when it fills, or lift out the PB4MK liner if you use one. There is nothing to wash and no bag to buy. If you hang the can inside and the motor in the garage, emptying becomes an indoor chore, which is the quality-of-life win this layout is for.
The motor unit needs occasional attention only: keep its exhaust path clear and, years down the road, expect the brush interrupters to stop the motor when the carbon brushes wear out. That is a brush change, not a motor change.
At 60 dB vented, the motor unit is quiet enough for a utility room, but still keep it off a wall shared with a bedroom.
What we’d verify before buying
- Weight of both pieces: not published.
- That the DC1200 dirt can is in the bundle you order, and whether brackets for both pieces ship with it.
- Whether the DC1200AC on Amazon is the same can VacuMaid calls the DC1200.
- That the circuit at the motor’s location is rated for a 15.8 A load.
- Amazon seller name, to know whether you are buying from Lindsay or a dealer.
