Our verdict

A wall-hung canister vacuum in a central-vacuum body: no pipe, no wall inlets, a standard hose plugs straight into the unit; OVO's documents never describe piping it, so buy it for one room cluster, a garage or a workshop, not a house.

Best for: Apartments, garages, workshops and small spaces up to about 1,600 sq ft of hose reach where you want a mounted unit and no piping

Will it work in your home?

  • Standard 2-inch central vac pipe

Fits the pipe already in most homes.

  • Low-voltage inlets

The inlet on the unit has two low-voltage pins, so a standard low-voltage hose with a handle switch starts and stops it. The record lists low-voltage only; direct-connect electric is not listed. No inlet wiring to run.

  • Direct-connect electric inlets

    Not supported.

  • Plugs into a standard outlet

    plug-in 120V

  • No exterior exhaust vent needed

Optional. Vent outside if you can.

  • Hose and powerhead included

Unit only. See "What you still need" below.

Bars place each figure against the 4 compact units we track, from the lowest published value to the highest, with the median marked. A bar is drawn only where at least three units publish the figure. Green sits on the better side of the median, amber on the weaker side; amps and weight have no better side.

"Not yet verified" means the manufacturer has not published the figure or we could not confirm it. We never fill a gap with a guess and we do not invent measurements: every figure is the maker's own or a specialty dealer's, and the source is named.

The short version

What we like

  • ✓595 air watts, 120 in water lift and 62 dB, confirmed on OVO's spec sheet
  • ✓Built-in utility inlet valve with low-voltage pins; any standard 1.25 in central-vacuum hose plugs in and the handle switch runs it
  • ✓Nothing to pipe: bracket, inlet valve, wire assembly, cord and exhaust fitting are in the box
  • ✓10-year parts warranty; plugs into a standard 120V outlet

What we'd change

  • ✕Coverage is hose reach, 1,600 sq ft, not a piping rating; OVO never documents connecting it to in-wall pipe
  • ✕Spec sheet says 5.7 in motor; parts list points to 4.2 in
  • ✕Bag only, 12.5 L bag; CFM, amps and weight not published

Who this unit is for

The OVO 595ST-18V is a central-vacuum power unit with the wall inlet built into the unit itself. There is no pipe to run and no inlet to cut into drywall: you hang it on a bracket, plug it in, and push a standard low-voltage hose into the inlet on its face. It is for a renter, a garage, a workshop, a car-detailing bay or a small apartment where one hose from one spot covers the area.

It is not a whole-house unit. OVO’s 1,600 sq ft figure is hose reach, and OVO’s spec sheet, manual and product page never describe connecting it to in-wall piping. If you want inlets in several rooms, the 550ST-18B and 630ST-18B are the same 18 L body with a pipe intake.

What the specs tell you

OVO’s spec sheet lists 595 air watts and 120 in of water lift from a single-stage thru-flow motor with soft start and stop. Air watts predicts cleaning at the tool, and 595 lands between OVO’s 550 and 630 compacts. Water lift is sealed suction; 120 in matters less here than on a piped system, because the only run is the hose. For a 30 to 40 ft hose, these numbers are more than enough.

Noise is 62 dB. Exhaust outside is optional, which fits a unit meant for places where ducting out is not practical.

Collection is bagged only: a 3-layer FD-12.5L bag in an 18 L top-load canister, behind the mandatory FILPCDO-VAC permanent protective filter, rinse-only. OVO’s manual for this model says to replace that filter every year, a shorter interval than the 2 years on OVO’s other units.

Not published: CFM, amps and weight. The product page’s 16 by 16 by 22 in and 22 lb look like the shipping carton.

Fit and compatibility

The inlet on the unit is OVO’s INSV-UT47-BK utility valve with two low-voltage pins. Any standard 1.25 in central-vacuum hose with a low-voltage handle switch plugs in, and the switch starts and stops the motor. The record lists low-voltage only; direct-connect electric is not listed.

Power is plug-in 120V on an attached 72 in grounded cord. The manual calls for a 15 A, 110 to 120 V, 60 Hz circuit; a dedicated circuit is recommended but not required. Dimensions are 11.73 in deep by 19.49 in high by 11.42 in wide on the MUSUP-SD-V1 bracket, and the manual asks for 12 in of clearance above the unit for the top-load bag. The manual’s illustration shows a MUSUP-SD-V2 bracket; the box lists SD-V1.

Mount it where the hose reaches the most floor: the middle of a garage wall, the hallway closet of an apartment.

What’s in the box, and what you still need

In the box: the power unit with the INSV-UT47-BK inlet valve, low-voltage wire assembly, short 90-degree elbow and stop coupling already part of it; the MUSUP-SD-V1 wall bracket packed inside the canister; one FD-12.5L bag; the FILPCDO-VAC filter; the attached 72 in cord; an LV-SOCKET-V3 wire socket; and a PIP-89-BK exhaust fitting.

Not included: a hose and tools. OVO sells the unit alone or bundled with its 40 ft Deluxe or Carpet Deluxe kits, and an OVO-595-814-30S garage and car-detailing bundle exists. Pipe, fittings and wall inlets are not needed.

Warranty and support

OVO’s manual: 10 years on parts for the body, motor and module, 1 year labor, 1 year on the electronic module, original owner, residential use only, optional paid 25-year extension. The protective filter must be replaced every year and bags changed at least twice a year.

Proof of purchase and a qualified electrician’s installation invoice are mandatory. That clause is odd on a unit whose whole point is that you hang it and plug it in; ask OVO how it applies before you rely on the warranty. Marketplace purchases are not addressed. OVO is made by Nadair of Laval, Quebec, which states no parts or repair service is available in Quebec after sale.

Living with it

This is the easiest central-vacuum unit to own because there is no system around it. Change the FD-12.5L bag, rinse the filter, replace the filter yearly, hang the hose on a hook. Exhaust goes into the room unless you add ducting, so a bag change on time keeps the dust down.

The hose is the system. A 40 ft hose on a hanger covers a two-car garage or a one-bedroom apartment; past that you are carrying the hose, not the vacuum. Buy a hose sock if it will drag across floors you care about.

What we’d verify before buying

  • Motor size: 5.7 in (spec sheet) versus 4.2 in (parts list).
  • CFM, amps and weight: not published.
  • Whether OVO will honor the warranty without an electrician’s invoice on a plug-in, no-pipe install.
  • Bracket: MUSUP-SD-V1 in the box list versus SD-V2 in the manual illustration.
  • Whether the hose bundle you are looking at is the Deluxe, Carpet Deluxe or garage kit, and its length.
  • HEPA rating: not stated.

Frequently asked questions

Does the OVO 595ST-18V need pipes or wall inlets?

No. The inlet valve is built into the unit. You plug a standard 1.25 in low-voltage hose into it and the hose-handle switch starts and stops the motor.

Can I connect it to in-wall piping instead?

OVO's spec sheet, manual and product page never describe it. The sibling 550ST-18B and 630ST-18B are the piped versions of this body. Treat this one as hose-at-the-unit only.

What does 1,600 sq ft mean here?

It is how much area a hose can cover from the mounting spot, per OVO and Home Depot Canada. It is not a pipe-network rating. OVO's garage bundle of the same unit lists 950 sq ft.

Does it come with a hose?

No. OVO sells it alone or bundled with its 40 ft Deluxe or Carpet Deluxe kits. Any standard low-voltage central-vacuum hose fits.

How loud is it?

62 dB per OVO. Exhaust outside is optional on this model.

What is the warranty?

10 years on parts for the body, motor and module, 1 year labor, 1 year on the electronic module. The protective filter must be replaced yearly and bags changed at least twice a year. Proof of purchase and an electrician's installation invoice are mandatory.
