Who this unit is for

The InterVac RoadVac CS-8 is for an RV, a boat or a very small living space, not a house. InterVac rates it for up to 900 sq ft. It weighs 8 lb, fits an 11 by 6 by 6 in cabinet cutout, and is used with a 35 ft stretch hose rather than a pipe network. The full-kit variant adds InterVac’s TK-104 tool kit.

What sets it apart from most small units is documentation. InterVac publishes sealed and working suction figures, noise, weight and dimensions, and its warranty names Amazon.

What the specs tell you

InterVac lists 414 air watts, 92 in of sealed water lift and 107 CFM maximum from a 1,200 W motor drawing 12 A at 60 Hz. Air watts predicts cleaning power at the tool; 414 is the lowest figure in our records, but it is being used through one stretch hose, not a pipe network. Water lift is sealed suction; 92 in is low for a house system and adequate for a hose. InterVac also publishes working figures of 52 in and 38 CFM, which describe the unit with air moving and are the more honest numbers for a stretch-hose setup.

Noise is 74.6 dB, among the loudest in our records, and in an RV the cabinet is the only thing between you and it.

Collection is bagged only: a 0.5 gal Y10 HEPA-type sealed bag with a Y22 motor filter. Half a gallon is tiny by design; in a sandy RV you will change bags often. The record does not state a certified HEPA rating.

Conflicts: amps 12 (page) versus 10 (manual); weight 8 lb (page) versus 5.5 lb (manual). Dimensions are 11.75 by 6 by 6.75 in per the page, while an additional-information tab says 12 by 12 by 8.

Fit and compatibility

This is not a 2-inch pipe system by default; the record keeps the pipe default but notes the unit uses its included stretch hose. The CS-RM variant adds an inlet valve. Low-voltage operation. Power is a 5 ft US 120 V cord on the Amazon variant; the manual says the CS-8 can be corded or hardwired, and 110 V and 220 V versions exist. Not hardwired as sold.

Exhaust outside is optional: the AS-61 exhaust fitting and 2 in flex hose duct exhaust out of the cabinet and are sold separately. Mounting is in a cabinet with screws and clamps; the cutout is 11 by 6 by 6 in.

What’s in the box, and what you still need

In the box: the power unit with screws and clamps and a 5 ft US 120 V power cord. The full-kit variant adds the TK-104 tool kit: 35 ft stretch hose, extension wand, crevice tool, dust brush, upholstery tool and combination rug and floor tool.

Not included: the AS-61 exhaust fitting and 2 in flex hose, and an inlet valve (CS-RM only). Confirm your listing is the full-kit variant; the bare unit has no hose.

Warranty and support

InterVac gives 2 years on the RV Vac line and 30 days on accessories. Bags, filters, tools and hoses are excluded, and non-genuine bags or filters void the unit warranty. Original purchaser, proof of purchase required, register before a claim. Coverage applies to purchases direct from InterVac, from authorized retailers (Amazon is named), or units installed in an RV or boat at purchase. InterVac’s reseller policy bars unauthorized marketplace selling and tracks units by serial number, but does not say how an unauthorized-seller purchase is treated. Products sold outside the US are as-is with no warranty. InterVac Design is in Palm City, Florida.

Living with it

Buy Y10 bags in quantity; 0.5 gal goes fast. Check the Y22 motor filter at each change. The stretch hose stores short and pulls to 35 ft. Duct the exhaust out with the AS-61 fitting if you can.

What we’d verify before buying

  • Amps: 12 A (page) versus 10 A (manual).
  • Weight: 8 lb (page) versus 5.5 lb (manual).
  • Dimensions: two different sets on InterVac’s own page.
  • Motor stages: not stated.
  • HEPA: HEPA-type bag; no certified rating.
  • Whether your listing is the bare unit or the TK-104 full kit.
  • Whether you need the CS-RM variant for an inlet valve.
