The short version

What we like

  • ✓501 air watts, 120 in water lift and 100 CFM are strong for a compact unit
  • ✓Complete kit: 35 ft stretch hose, wand, tools, 3 bags and one inlet
  • ✓Thermal overload protection with automatic reset; plugs into 120V
  • ✓5-year warranty per the retailer

What we'd change

  • ✕1 gal bag fills fast; not a whole-house unit
  • ✕Square footage and noise are not published
  • ✕Dimensions and weight conflict between retailer and listing
  • ✕Specs come from a retailer, not a manufacturer document

Who this unit is for

The Dirt Devil CV1500 is for a garage, workshop, RV or boat, not a house. H-P Products, which also makes Vacuflo, sells it under part number 9880, and the retailer describes it for garage, RV, yacht or boat use. It arrives as a complete kit: unit, one inlet, a 35 ft stretch hose and a set of tools. Mount it, plug it in, and you have a built-in vacuum with one hookup point.

It is not a whole-house power unit. The 1 gal bag and the single included inlet tell you that.

What the specs tell you

The retailer lists 501 air watts, 120 in of water lift and 100 CFM at 11.7 A. For a unit this size those are strong numbers; the air watt figure is close to NuTone’s PP5501 house unit. Air watts predicts cleaning power at the tool; water lift is sealed suction, which matters less here because you are running one stretch hose rather than a pipe network. The motor type and stage count are not stated, but it has a thermal overload protector with automatic reset.

Noise and square footage are not published. The retailer does not frame it in square feet at all, which fits its purpose.

Collection is bagged only, into a 1 gal disposable bag (CV950/CV1500 bags; 3 included). In a garage with sawdust or an RV with sand, 1 gal fills quickly. The listing’s filter field says cartridge, which conflicts with the bag description.

Dimensions conflict: the retailer says 6.25 by 7 by 14.5 in; the Amazon listing says 21.5 by 14 by 11.13 in, which is likely the box. Weight is 14 lb per the retailer; the listing’s 21 lb is likely shipping weight.

Fit and compatibility

The record keeps the 2-inch pipe default and lists low-voltage inlet operation. In practice the kit is designed around its one included inlet valve and the 35 ft stretch hose that stores at 7 ft. Adding more inlets means buying pipe and fittings separately. Plug-in 120V, not hardwired. Exhaust outside is optional. Wall-bracket mount.

What’s in the box, and what you still need

In the box: the power unit, 35 ft stretch hose (7 ft stored), telescopic adjustable wand, 10 in combo floor and rug tool, crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery tool, mesh tool bag, 3 bags and one inlet valve with installation material.

Not included: pipe and fittings beyond the one inlet. For an RV or boat, mount the inlet where the hose reaches everything. For a garage, you may want a short pipe run to a second inlet; that is extra.

Warranty and support

The retailer page states a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. H-P Products’ Dirt Devil brochure describes a limited lifetime warranty on permanently installed components for the main CV and DB house lines, but the record does not confirm that for the CV1500, and the CV1500 manual carries its own separate 5-year H-P Products limited warranty.

H-P Products’ residential warranty makes proof of purchase or registration a condition and states that power units bought from anyone other than an authorized dealer are not covered. The CV1500 manual does not mention online sellers. Registration is at cvacregistration.com, and the warranty phone and email are on dirtdevilcentral.com. The manufacturer’s Dirt Devil central vacuum sites were unreachable when the record was built; dirtdevilcentral.com is the live site, and vacuflo.com lists no CV1500 manual.

Living with it

Bag changes will be frequent; buy CV950/CV1500 bags in quantity. The stretch hose stores at 7 ft and pulls to 35 ft, so hang it by the unit. The thermal protector resets itself if the motor overheats from a clogged hose or a full bag.

With no noise figure and optional venting, mount it where you would mount a shop vacuum and vent outside if the space is enclosed.

What we’d verify before buying

  • Square footage: not published (and not the right measure for this unit).
  • Noise (dB): not published.
  • Motor type and stages: not stated.
  • Dimensions: retailer 6.25 x 7 x 14.5 in versus listing 21.5 x 14 x 11.13 in.
  • Weight: 14 lb versus 21 lb.
  • Warranty: 5 years per retailer; lifetime brochure language not confirmed for this model.
  • Whether your seller is an authorized dealer, which H-P’s residential warranty requires.
